Our Religious Education Program is an after-school initiative designed for children from registered families attending public schools. The program ensures these students complete the mandated eight years of Religious Education, preparing them for sacraments and fostering their spiritual growth.
Currently, the program serves over 1,000 children ranging from first grade through high school, representing approximately 10 South Shore public schools. Students attend once a week for religious instruction, with specialized programs available for children with special needs.
The program is supported by more than 90 volunteer catechists, including public school teachers and parents. These dedicated volunteers provide instruction, assist in the office, monitor hallways, and step in as substitute teachers. Additionally, high school students from Teaching the Christian Message (TCM) programs at Monsignor Farrell and Moore Catholic High Schools, as well as volunteers from Tottenville, St. Joseph by the Sea, and St. Joseph Hill High Schools, contribute by helping in classrooms and office work.
Under the guidance of Rev. Eric Rapaglia, Moderator and Pastor, the Religious Education office is led by Mrs. Vivian Fox. The team also includes Ms. Tami Serafino, Ms. Carol Carucci, and Mrs. Anna Sikorjak.
